Project Office & Organisation
The GLAFO Project Office is based at the Institute of Physics and Meteorology (IPM), University of Hohenheim (UHOH), and supports the scientific coordination, development, and implementation of the GLAFO initiative.
Project Office
The Project Office is composed of Prof. Dr. Volker Wulfmeyer, Jonathan Minz, and Dr. Oliver Branch. Together, the Project Office supports the scientific development of the GLAFO concept, coordination of activities, preparation of community material, and the advancement of prototype implementation at the University of Hohenheim. Please contact the project office in case you have queries about the GLAFO initiative or would like for an observational site to become a part of it.
Supporting Scientific and Operational Team
The work of GLAFO is further supported by a wider scientific and operational team at the University of Hohenheim.
From the Remote Sensing group at IPM, UHOH, this includes:
- Dr. Andreas Behrendt
- Dr. Diego Lange
- Moritz Schumacher
- Linus von Klitzing
- Syed Abbas
- Timo Keller
Additional scientific support is provided by colleagues from the Department of Biogeophysics:
- Prof. Dr. Thilo Streck
- Dr. Joachim Ingwersen
- Dr. Verena Rajtschan
The initiative is also supported by technical staff responsible for site maintenance and operation, as well as Master’s and PhD students contributing to observations, data analysis, and scientific development. Together, this wider team contributes expertise in atmospheric remote sensing, land–atmosphere observations, soil and vegetation processes, field operations, and prototype site development, thereby supporting the implementation of the GLAFO concept in practice.
Organization within the International Scientific Framework
The GLAFO Project Office functions within the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) hierarchy, specifically under GEWEX, the Global Energy and Water Exchanges Program, which examines Earth’s water and energy cycles. GLAFO is linked to GEWEX’s Global Land–Atmosphere System Study (GLASS) Panel, providing essential scientific infrastructure for land–atmosphere feedback research.
GLAFO operates at the intersection of local and international efforts, simultaneously advancing the Hohenheim prototype while supporting GEWEX and WCRP’s objectives. This dual-focused approach strengthens site-specific research and global climate science by enhancing our understanding and modeling of land–atmosphere interactions.
