The 2027 World Weather Research Program Conference on Advancing Weather Science for Resilient Societies (WWRP 2027) will take place in Nanjing, China from 23-25 August 2027. The Conference will help accelerate progress toward the goals of WWRP’s Implementation Plan which should be approved at the time of the Conference. Those goals aim to enable significant advancements in weather prediction, early warning systems, and disaster preparedness. The integration of novel datasets, AI, ML, and societal observations, together with increasingly interdisciplinary approaches to Earth system prediction (e.g., integrating land, cryosphere, ocean, and hydrological components with the atmosphere), will lead to more accurate and timely forecasts, improved decision-making during crises, and greater global cooperation in addressing the challenges posed by extreme weather events. Ultimately, this conference will contribute to a more resilient and informed global society in the face of a rapidly changing climate aims to advance the full forecast value cycle, from observations and prediction through to communication, preparedness, and risk governance, with a strong emphasis on impact-based, people-centered, and equitable early warning systems.
