 2007
Reorganization of GEWEX:
At their 2007 meeting, the GEWEX Scientific Steering Group approved the merger of the
GEWEX Hydrometeorology Panel (GHP) and the Coordinated Enhanced Observing Period (CEOP)
into the Coordinated Energy and Water Cycle Observations Project (CEOP),
which will oversee all GEWEX Hydroclimate projects. This merger will eliminate project
overlap and enhance the efforts of both of these entities while retaining GHP strategic
goals and ongoing science activities. To view a paper with the rationale for the GHP/CEOP
merger, click here. The
structures of the Radiation and the Modelling and Prediction panels have not changed.
GEWEX
projects are grouped by research focus into the following categories:
The activities under each category are coordinated and guided
by the following: |

Terms of Reference |
GEWEX Radiation Panel
(GRP) |
Determine atmospheric and surface radiation fluxes and heating with the
precision needed to predict transient climate variations and decadal-to-centennial climate
trends. |
| GEWEX Modelling and Prediction Panel (GMPP) |
Develop accurate global model information on the energy and water budget and
demonstrate predictability of their variability and response to climate forcing. |
| Coordinated Energy and Water Cycle Observations Project (CEOP) |
Demonstrate skill in predicting changes in water resources and soil moisture
on time scales up to seasonal and annual as an integral part of the climate system. |
