GEWEX Radiation
Panel
(GRP)

Chair:
Christian Kummerow

2008 - Present

Vice-Chair:
Joerg Schulz

GRP Members

Guide GEWEX radiation projects in determining global water and energy fluxes in the atmosphere and at the surface, as an element of seasonal-to-interannual climate variability, and the response of the climate systems on decadal-to-interannual time scales to changes in anthropogenic forcing.

BSRN
Baseline Surface Radiation Network

Chair:
Ellsworth Dutton
1995 - Present

Provide highly accurate worldwide radiative flux measurements to validate satellite-based measurements. Develop instrument requirements, establish BSRN reference stations worldwide and assemble a database.

CIRC
Continuous Intercomparison of Radiation Codes

Chair:
Lazaros Oreopoulos
2004 - Present

Release a web site that will provide both synthetic and observation-based tests for any radiative transfer code calculating broadband fluxes (like those used in GCMs).

GACP

Global Aerosol Climatology Project

Chair:
Michael Mishchenko
1998 - Present

Produce a 20-year climatology of aerosol forcing data from satellite observations and field observations for use in climate models.

-

GPCP -

Global Precipitation Climatology Project

Chair:
Robert Adler
2005 - Present

Produce on-going, long-term, globally complete gridded estimates of precipitation. Merge precipitation estimates computed from satellite-based microwave, infrared, and sounding data with analyses of in-situ gauge data. Monthly, pentad and daily data sets are available for time period of 1979-present.

1997 - Present

Compare the performance of these 3D RT codes used in a variety of current scientific work in the atmospheric sciences.

RAMI

Radiation transfer Model Intercomparison

Chair:
Jean-Luc Widlowski

2005 - present

Systematic comparison of canopy radiative transfer models under controlled experimental conditions, generation of reference solutions for shortwave radiative quantities in 1D and 3D vegetation > canopies.

-

ISCCP
International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project

Chair:
William Rossow
1998 - Present

Produce a continuous global data set of the Earth's radiance using cloud radiance data from geostationary and polar orbiting weather satellites.

ISCCP celebrated its 25th Anniversary in
July 2008.

Landflux

Chair:
William Rossow
2006 - Present

Produce a high-resolution satellite-based data set of land-surface turbulent fluxes of heat and water.
-
-

Seaflux

Chair:
Carol Anne Clayson
2006 - Present

Produce a high-resolution satellite-based data set of of surface turbulent fluxes over the global oceans.
-
-
-

SRB

Surface Radiation
Budget Project

Chair:
Paul Stackhouse
1997 - Present

WGDMA
Working Group on
Data Management
and Analysis

Chair:
William Rossow
2002 - Present

Conduct systematic assessments of the current GRP products; refine and improve the analyses with particular attention to making the long-term record more homogeneous and making the products physically consistent; and conduct a complete re-processing of all the GEWEX data products.
